Barbara’s Blog:

As we prepare to celebrate our Thanksgiving holiday this week, it is sad to read and hear about the many families who are torn by political conflict and who will not be spending the holiday together because of the election outcome and the extreme differences of opinion.  How did we come to be like this?

When did we stop being thankful for each day we are given?  When did we stop being thankful for our good health, our families and our friends?  When did we stop being thankful for the many freedoms we enjoy because of the millions who died for that right?

Just this year, we have had several good friends and neighbors diagnosed with cancer who are fighting for their lives; we have lost friends and neighbors through tragedies and sickness; we have watched news stories of those losing loved ones through tragedies or violence; we have seen the devastation of tornadoes, hurricanes and floods, where so many no longer have their homes to celebrate a Thanksgiving meal.

Why can’t we be thankful for the many, many blessings we have?  Somehow, we have lost sight of the real meaning of Thanksgiving.  As the turkey is carved and the  pumpkin pie is enjoyed, take time to make a mental list of what you are most thankful for.  You will be amazed at how long the list will be!

Allen and I wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving, good health, and safe travels.
