True Thanksgiving
November 21st, 2012 12:52 PM

Soon, the turkey will be in the oven, the pies cooling on the racks.  There will be conversation and companionship as we gather together with family and friends to rejoice in our bounty of blessings.  But do we take time to be truly grateful?  We make time for Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade; we make time for the football games; we spend time preparing for the Black Friday shopping specials.  But do we rush through Thanksgiving without really giving thanks?

This year, many have lost their houses to foreclosures or short sales . . . . . give thanks for the comfort and joy of a home and roof over your head.  Homeowners who sold may have lost money in the value of their homes . . . . . . give thanks for the sale and the chance to move forward.  Buyers have received historically low mortgage rates and bargain prices on homes . . . . . give thanks for this opportunity.  Many jobs were lost in the construction industry during the market crash . . . . . give thanks for the resumption of new builds and new communities now being planned and constructed.

We have so much for which to be thankful:  our food and homes, family and friends, good health . . . . . We have so much about which to smile and so much we can share with others.  We are a country blessed with abundance.  With the gift of a grateful heart, all we have is all we really need.

Let us enjoy a "true Thanksgiving" by sincerely giving thanks!
