The Kindness of Strangers
June 24th, 2014 2:28 PM

In this day and age, we often shy away from any stranger out of fear and uncertainty.  Safety must surely be our main concern.  But sometimes an encounter with a stranger can be a positive experience.  Just giving a smile, making eye contact or striking up a conversation can make the biggest difference in someone's day.

One of the reasons real life is difficult is that we don't or won't ask for assistance - from family, friends, co-workers or even strangers.  We feel uncomfortable, as if asking for help is confirmation that we are completely inept.  But at some point, we will all need that help.

Simple acts of kindness and compassion are positive exchanges needed in the circle of life.  Open a door for others; let someone go in line ahead of you; pay for the order behind you in a drive-through line; give up that parking space; "pay it forward" with any expression of generosity, whether it be money, time or actions.  Be kind to strangers and let strangers be kind to you.

Remember, "some have entertained angels unaware and some of us have encountered them without knowing, sending them away before receiving their blessing."
