Barbara’s Blog:

Progress is always a good thing, but when construction and growth begin to exceed the surrounding infrastructure, the result is a traffic nightmare.  We are experiencing just that at Exit 58, near Champions Gate.  All summer long, even with the snow birds gone, the traffic has often been gridlock causing much frustration, whether traveling east or west on Interstate 4.

With the proximity to Disney World only 5 miles away, new construction has exploded in both Champions Gate and Reunion, not only with residential homes, but with vacation homes, several vacation resorts which include incredible amenities, new condos and town homes, apartments and now retail businesses and restaurants, including Miller’s Ale House, Red Robbin, and Tijuana Flats.  There is a tremendous draw to this area and so goes the traffic nightmare.

There are ways to avoid the I-4 traffic congestion, depending on the end destination.  Exit 58 will lead to Highway 27; Exit 60 toll road will lead to Highway 192; Exit 55 will lead to both Highways 27 and 192.  From Disney World, I-4 can be avoided altogether if Hwy. 192 is taken west until Hwy. 27 south.  Champions Gate can be accessed from two entrances off Hwy. 27 South, both to the left.  The second entrance is from Ronald Reagan Parkway.

Knowing how to get around the traffic congestion is key to enjoying a stress-free vacation in the Disney area.  As more properties are built and bought, more traffic will be on the roads.  It is important to know alternate routes, be aware of the busiest times of day, and most important to be alert and be safe!
