Barbara’s Blog:

Monday, August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will track from the Pacific to the Atlantic.  The shadow of the moon will track over parts of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina.  A partial eclipse will occur for the rest of the United States.

This is a huge event as the last total eclipse seen in the United States was in 1979 and the next total eclipse that can be seen from the west coast to the east coast will be in 2045.

Many will be traveling to an area of totality so traffic is expected to be heavy in those areas.  Motel rooms and campgrounds have been sold out for months and some are planning week-long vacations around this event.  We happen to be one of those who booked a camp site last December in Anderson, South Carolina where the eclipse will be 100%.  It will be an exciting event shared with friends and family who live in that area and are meeting us there.

As stated in the news, be sure to have genuine protective glasses to view this eclipse and keep your eyes from damage!  Since it will only last a few minutes, it is suggested you thoroughly enjoy the event instead of taking dozens of photos that will appear in the media anyway.  There will be plenty of news coverage with photos from all areas in the path across the country.

Mondays are usually dreaded when beginning another work week, but this will be one Monday to truly remember for a very long time.  Enjoy and stay safe!
