Barbara’s Blog:

All of us know about learning life’s lessons through pain, struggle, and loss.  But few of us realize that it is often the gentlest lessons that teach us the most.  It has been said, “What a wonderful life I’ve had.  I only wish I’d realized it sooner!”

Yes, life is just full of wonderful surprises if we’re open to them.  You may wake up not knowing what will happen during the day, and then something very unexpected happens that changes everything:  an invitation to dinner, a surprise package in the mail, a phone call from a long-distance friend.  As a detail-oriented person, being spontaneous is not one of my strong traits.  However, I am gently learning the important lesson of being open to receive when the opportunity presents itself.  Taking the time to enjoy those invitations or distractions of the day that we think we should pass on, just might be the most delightful moments of the week.

Listen to the laughter of children or grandchildren; accept the kindness of a friend; reach out to those in need; act on intuition; be open to laughing at yourself; observe how your pets live so contentedly in the present moment; discover the healing power of spontaneity; and focus on the good in any situation.

Expect the best of every day, realizing what a wonderful life you are living.  If we are open to and grateful for gentle lessons, new teachers will appear in our path.  Be thankful for today . . . . . . it is going to be a great one!
