Soggy Sunshine State
June 27th, 2012 9:16 AM

Sunshine has been lacking for well over a week in Central Florida and for most of the state, primarily due to Tropical Storm Debby.   But even before Debby appeared, we were due to have one of the wettest months of June on record.  It seems Mother Nature has her own way of dealing with drought.

After a very hot and dry spring, the rains began in early June with typical afternoon thunderstorms, and they have not stopped yet!   Central Florida fared much better than the West Coast near Tampa where much flooding caused bridge and road closures.   But even in the Orlando area, lakes are overflowing and grounds saturated from the persisting heavy rains.  These rainy skies have put some sadness over the "happiest place on earth."

But the good news is that Debby is finally moving out of the state, and our Florida sunshine is due to appear once again by this coming weekend.  Not only will tourists welcome back our sunshine, but residents are anxiously looking forward to a break from the gloomy weather.  However, along with the sunshine will come intense heat once again, so get the sunscreen and swiming pools ready.   Welcome back sunshine, we have really missed you!!!
