Simplicities for September
September 10th, 2013 4:06 PM

Fall is just around the corner, so it is time to enjoy some cookouts lingering until twilight, as we watch the sun go down earlier and bid summer a fond adieu.

Labor Day has come and gone, and we wonder where all the summer plans went.   Now is the time to list all the things that didn't get accomplished and put them in an envelope.  Paperclip to the month of June in next year's calendar and make this list a priority for next summer.

But for now, fully enjoy the month of September:   make taffy apples; enjoy fresh apple cider; experiment with different types of popcorn.  Celebrate the autumn equinox with a festive dinner of homestyle cooking.   Bring home a pot of fresh mums for the table or look at farmers' markets to create your own fall bouquet.   Take a long walk under the harvest moon and enjoy the cooler evenings.

This is the time to decide on Halloween costumes for children, before they become picked over.  And begin making a Christmas list and start shopping this month so that panic mode does not set in  by December!

Most of all, be aware of the awesome September beauty, for whether you live in the north or south, it is all around us, just waiting to be found.
