Self-Making Misery

Barbara’s Blog:

Some people just cannot figure out why life has dealt them such a miserable hand.  They see others around them enjoying life and compare themselves and their situations, wishing they were as fortunate, which adds to their misery.  They are convinced that others are to blame, are purposely holding them down, and they refuse to look at the good in their lives.  But in truth, misery is always self-concocted.  I have come across the following “recipe for misery” that I would like to share:

“Think about yourself; talk about yourself; use “I” as often as possible.

Mirror yourself continually in the opinion of others.

Listen greedily to what people say about you; be suspicious.

Expect to be appreciated.

Be jealous and envious.

Be sensitive to slights.

Never forgive a criticism.

Trust nobody but yourself.

Insist on consideration and the proper respect.

Demand agreement with your own views on everything.

Sulk if people are not grateful to you for favors shown them.

Never forget a service you may have rendered.

Be on the lookout for a good time for yourself.

Shirk your duties if you can.

Do as little as possible for others.

Love yourself supremely; be selfish.”

This recipe is guaranteed to work to achieve total misery.  On the other hand, if misery is NOT what you want, do just the opposite.  You will have a difficult time feeling even a little bit blue!
