Many experts recommend that you focus on the kitchen first when preparing your home for sale.  For many potential buyers, the kitchen is the most important room in the house.  Since the kitchen has the power to make or break an offer, you should do everything you can to enhance it before showing your home to buyers.  Experts also agree that improvements in the kitchen are the most profitable.  When selling, you don’t want to do a full remodel, but rather take some affordable steps to promote the best features.

Start by creating space:  clear the counters of all clutter; empty shelves and drawers and move to storage boxes.  The more space seen, the better!

Consider paint, which is always the most profitable improvement. A fresh coat of a light, neutral color will make kitchen walls look spotless and refreshing.

Pay particular attention to the sink.  It should  be absolutely free of stains and there should be no leaks or drips.  If your faucet looks old and dated, consider replacing it with a new one.  For very little expense, it will go a long way towards updating the look of the kitchen.  Stainless steel sinks and faucets are very popular.

If the counter tops look old, tired or outdated, consider new ones.  There are many beautiful color choices of granite and quartz, but neutral colors should be chosen.

Freshen up the cabinets.  Replacing the cabinets is very expensive, but some can be painted or just changing out the knobs can give a modern, new look.  Consider under cabinet lighting or light rail trim.  Also pull out drawers are a desirable feature and not overly expensive.

In short, buyers will be quick to notice any shortcomings in your kitchen. So, you will want to do everything reasonably possible to freshen it up and give it a new open modernized look.
