Barbara’s Blog:

We all know that Orlando is the undisputed theme park capital of the world and it seems many of the local parks are changing the game and redefining what a theme park really is.  This year and next will bring many new “worlds” to thrill and entertain guests as never before.

Universal Orlando Resort is now adding a “water theme park” called Volcano Bay which will open this summer.  It is a Pacific island-themed experience that mixes thrills with tropical relaxation while eliminating the hassle of standing in long lines and carrying rafts. Universal has also recently opened Skull Island:  Reign of King Kong and its fifth themed hotel, Sapphire Falls.

Sea World has added Mako, Orlando’s tallest, fastest, longest roller coaster and is working on changes for the Shamu show and expansion of whale exhibits and interactions.

Disney World is in the midst of massive construction and changes to both Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.   At Animal Kingdom, the new Rivers of Light show has already begun and evening hours are extended, allowing for rides into the safari savannah to enjoy night views of the animals for the first time.  At the end of May, the new world of “Pandora” will open to thrill those who enjoyed the movie, “Avatar.”  It is expansive and promises to “wow” all those who enter.  Work continues at Hollywood Studios towards completion of “Star Wars Land” and “Toy Story Land.”  They are both scheduled to be finalized in 2018 and 2019.   Magic Kingdom has just changed their nightly fireworks show and there are rumors that a 4th “mountain” ride may be coming to Adventureland in the near future. EPCOT recently opened the new ride “Frozen” and revamped “Soarin” to bring it up to date.  This park continues to excel with all of its special festivals, concerts and events each season.

The old Downtown Disney shopping area is now the much expanded and improved Disney Springs, which is absolutely gorgeous, free of charge, with state of the art parking, high street style shopping and an endless choice of restaurants, bars and entertainment!

With the summer months just ahead, residents of Central Florida have everything to look forward to . . . .  not only the theme parks, but cultural events, lakes, springs, beaches, cruise ports . . . . all just a short drive away.

And speaking of cruise ports, there will be no blog next week as we are “sailing away” out of Port Canaveral!  Bon voyage!!
