Polk Attractions
May 15th, 2013 9:38 AM

Most people come to the Orlando area to visit Disney World, Universal Studios, or Sea World.   However, Polk County is growing in attractions with the addition of Legoland and Legoland Water Park and there are many "older" attractions that still draw much attention and entertain lots of tourists.

Fantasy of Flight is one of the nation's premier aviation-themed attractions and has more than 40 rare and vintage aircraft on display.  You can also enjoy a ropes course and zip line, hot air balloon rides, and even biplane rides.

Time seems to move backward when you visit Homeland Heritage Park, featuring a collection of structures dating to the late 19th century.  The central attraction is the former one-room Homeland School, the oldest existing public school building in Polk County.  Various older structures are scattered over a 5-acre park set in a remote area.

More than 23 million people have sampled the tranquility of Bok Tower Gardens since its opening in 1929.  This Lake Wales landmark, occupying the highest spot in penninsular Florida, offers lush gardens, a peaceful environment and daily carillon concerts.

The largest single-site collection of buildings designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright can be found on the campus of Florida Southern College in Lakeland.  Wright bestowed the name Child of the Sun for the collection of a dozen structures, including 1 1/2 miles of esplanades connecting the buildings.  Guided tours are available to view this unique collection.

There are many other Polk County Art Galleries, Museums, and small attractions that get less recognition, but are just as enjoyable as the many major attractions that the Four Corners area has to offer. Be sure to stop at the Polk County Tourist Building located off of Exit 55 (I-4) to gather information about all the numerous possibilities for the summer season.
