October Orange
October 2nd, 2013 7:21 AM

The month of October is one of the most colorful, with orange being the predominent color, as the fall season is in full swing.  It is such a fun month and  traditionally begins the season of holidays and decorating.

Plan an outing to a pumpkin patch or farmers' market.  Select the perfect pumpkin, but also get an assortment of smaller ones on which to carve different designs, such as spiders, ghosts, or moon and stars.  Pie pumpkins are the perfect size for creating luminaries for steps or driveways, and the midget pumpkins make charming votive candle holders for dinner tables.

Create a seasonal table by arranging autumnal still life:  wheat sheaves, pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, and bouquets of dried flowers.  Larger pumpkins also make very attractive natural vases for autumn bouquets for table centerpieces.

If selling a home during this season, plan to have it looking "festive" and inviting for October.  Use cinnamon and pumpkin spices for fragrances throughout the home.  Have apple cider on hand for any Open Houses and any kind of pumpkin dessert.   Display pots of colorful mums and autumn leaves.

Most importantly, don't let October slip by without thoroughly enjoying its pleasures.  Dress up for Halloween, or at least find yourself a wonderful mask to wear when opening the front door for the trick or treaters.  Enjoy the beauty, the smells and the change in temperatures as our days shorten and we prepare for winter.  October orange is everywhere you look!
