North to Alaska!
July 1st, 2014 10:09 AM

So many people ask, "Where do residents of Florida go for a vacation?" Well, many have ventured "north" to Alaska to enjoy the adventures and wildlife of the last frontier.

Alaska weather is highly unpredictable, just like Florida, but the warmest temperatures are in July and August, where average highs are in the 60's to 70's.  Summer is their rainy season, too, so showers and rainy days are to be expected.   But weather is part of the overall experience in Alaska.

Wildlife is one of the big attractions, with humpback and killer whales, brown and black bears, moose and caribou, bald eagles, puffins and seabirds, and even harbor seals and sea lions. You never know what you will see or where.

There are many ways to travel Alaska, but  the best is a land and sea tour.  Several days on land is the primary way  to experience the wildlife, the mountains and the spectacular lodges.  A week at sea will glide through the magnificent glaciers and stop at some of the prominent ports, such as Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, allowing for excursions to go whale watching, take scenic railways, or enjoy other specific tours.

Alaska is so different from "beaches and islands" and will provide another world to explore, unique and expansive with all new experiences.

Why am I writing about Alaska, living here in Florida?   Because we are leaving for our own land and sea tour and will be gone "north to Alaska" for 14 days.  Therefore, there will be no blog for the next two weeks.

We wish everyone a safe and healthy 4th of July holiday and a wonderful summer vacation, filled with long-lasting memories!
