Murder Mystery Dinner Train
August 21st, 2012 7:58 AM

While looking for a gift for my husband, involving a train (which he loves) I came across a unique dining experience,  fantastic entertainment and train ride all in one.  The Seminole Gulf Railway in Fort Myers opened the Dinner Train in 1991, followed by the beginning of daytime excursion trains.  When the dinner train began its first Murder Mystery Production, it became a huge success and has been extremely popular for the past two decades.  Not many in the Orlando area are aware of this train adventure, and it is well worth the 3.5 hour trip on I-4 and I-75 to get there.

The train seats up to 200 passengers in four reconditioned vintage railcars from the 1930's to the 1950's, nicely decorated with spacious tables, large windows, and air conditioning.  All the food for a full five course meal is prepared fresh daily on board the train and there is a choice of 3 main entrees, all absolutely delicious, and served in style by the dedicated and friendly staff.  There is a wine list, drink specials, and beers as well as iced tea and soda; from the appetizer to the dessert, everything was superb and elegantly served, with generous portions!

The train route is a full 3.5 hours traveling to Punta Gorda, crossing the Caloosahatchee River, and then returning back the same route. While enjoying the scenery and the fabulous meal, you are entertained by a professional group of actors who perform various murder mysteries scheduled by date in advance.  Each scene is performed in full in each of the four dining cars so that everyone has a chance to take some notes and gather good clues as to "who done it."  The murder mysteries involve a lot of humor and the actors who performed on our train kept us in stitches!

The best part of all was the "get-away package" we received for an exceptional price.   This includes the Murder Mystery Dinner Train Ride, a one night stay at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott, and free full hot breakfast meal the following morning.

There is simply not enough space here to describe what an enjoyable experience this was and I cannot wait to do it again.  There are special seasonal dining experiences for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, too.  Be sure to consider this adventure when looking for something "different" to do.  You will certainly NOT be disappointed!

PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT POST A BLOG NEXT WEEK, AS I WILL BE IN COLORADO LOOKING FOR NEW ADVENTURES!
