According to county officials, the new Legoland Park is still scheduled to open in October, 2011 in Winter Haven where the former Cypress Gardens called home for many years.  There are various reasons the developers and owners feel this will be a huge success and increase tourism for Polk County.

Cypress Gardens had focused toward a senior citizen population whereas the new theme park will target young families with children.   The strength of the brand, a highly-trained and committed staff, and the Lego Experience will also contribute to the significant shift to another demographic.

Thousands of jobs will be created by the opening this fall and spin off jobs will come from other local business expanding or changing their venues to be more family friendly.  There will be an immediate need for more accomodations, dining, shopping and general tourism activities.

One idea that brought attention is a new trend, called the "dive-in movie."  A number of hotels have now installed large screens in swimming areas so that children and parents can do both simultaneously.  Disney has already incorporated this idea into many of their resorts.

The director of Polk County tourism knows how important it is to keep tourists in this county.  Businesses will have the chance to play upon the success of Legoland and make the necessary changes to prevent tourists from spending all their time in Orlando or Tampa.

Exit 55 from I-4 will be the primary route to Legoland from other attractions.  With Posner Park located right there, the time is ripe for new restaurants, new retail shops, and new activities to emerge, sort of a "gold mine" waiting to happen.   Businesses would be wise to jump in now before the demand drives up prices.

Will we finally see some growth to Posner Park????
