Barbara’s Blog:

According to the Lakeland Ledger, Legoland Florida Resort has received a construction permit to build a lodging complex on the opposite side of Cypress Gardens Boulevard from the theme park.  Merlin Entertainment Group plans to construct a resort featuring 166 single-story units and a 12,145 sq. ft. clubhouse on vacant land on the west shore of Lake Dexter.  Legoland Florida Resort currently occupies about 150 acres on the west side of Cypress Gardens Boulevard.

This resort would be Legoland’s first expansion beyond the boundaries of Cypress Gardens, the theme park purchased by Merlin in 2010.  Legoland Florida opened in October 2011 as the second such attraction in the United States and it has expanded with several new rides and themed areas since then.  A formal announcement and details of the new lodging will be later this month.

Last May, the theme park opened Legoland Hotel, a five-story, 152 room lodging with rooms catering to children in four designs reflecting sections of the park or Lego products.  It has been a huge success and is in high demand from tourists, with solid bookings.

There remains a lovely section of the former Cypress Gardens, with beautiful flowers, waterfalls, and a ski show for those who remember the original theme park.  But whatever the age, there is much to see and do at Legoland and since it is unique to other local attractions, it is well received.  We have personally enjoyed our visits there, both with and without grandchildren, and highly recommend it!
