July Simplicities
July 6th, 2010 10:17 AM

July is not only our celebration of Independence Day, but the middle of summer when we fully enjoy the potluck picnics, adventures in new travels, and the general simplicities of life as we take time to relax.

If you have a beach trip planned this month, try to enjoy the beach at different times: an early morning browse to collect shells or take a brisk walk, a late afternoon visit when the tide changes, or a special moonlight walk watching a breathtaking sunset.   Stand at the water's edge or sit on a towel to gaze out across the water and marvel at the power and mystery of it all.  Enjoy the wonder of our beautiful oceans.

Stargazing is one of the oldest human pastimes and there's good reason for it.  Gazing at the stars reminds us that there's more than we'll ever realize to this universe and that every day is another chance to follow a dream.  Find a star to wish upon.  Wonder at the vastness of the galaxy.

During a summer thunderstorm, sit outside in a covered area and experience the  power of Nature unleashed.  There is nothing as fascinating as really watching the massive show of electricity in the sky and the beauty that is contained in it.  Marvel at the energy contained in the wind, rain and lightning.

Make time to read a good book, lie in a hammock, learn a new craft, bake a new dish, or just ride a bike on a nature walk, as July is full of "simplicities" that cost nothing and can refresh our attitudes and minds.  Life is always full of wonderful surprises if we are open to them.  It is the "simple" things in life that teach us the most.
