Home Art
March 9th, 2011 11:11 AM

Spring is the time of year when we get busy thinking of those changes we want to make to our homes.   Even if you feel you haven't the eyes to excel in the visual arts, the personality for the performing arts, or the patience for hand arts, you can still explore the delights of making your home an authentic art.

There are many decorating and artistic skills involved when the home becomes a hobby.  Craft can become art when we refinish furniture, paint a wall or stencil, apply our own decor and finishes to flea market finds, rewire an old lamp, upholster a chair, sew a slipcover, lay tile, or trim a pillow.

We all waste things every day and tend to throw things out rather than re-make them into something of a new style or finish. The garage sales and flea markets become very busy with sellers discarding and buyers on an adventure to find new treasures.  But with a little elbow grease, ingenuity and the sweat equity of time, the marvelous can materialize right before our eyes.   What a sense of pleasure comes from using your own creativity to use something "old" and turn it into something "new!"

Start with one small project and honor your creative impulses.  Feathering your own nest is a perfect way to spread your wings as an artist.   We all have the ability . . . . . . but need to take the time.  It can be lots of fun, save tons of money and be just the" spring spruce up" your home needs.
