Fun at Fantasyland
March 21st, 2012 10:00 AM

Disney World is currently working on the biggest-ever expansion of the 142-acre Magic Kingdom park, which will double the size of Fantasyland with a 26-acre addition.

We all remember the favorite Dumbo ride, from the early 70's when the Magic Kingdom first opened.  But there is now a new retro-style spinning ride that sports lighted fountains, Dumbo's mom's adoring face, and golden storks delivering the flying cartoon elephant.  There will also be a second Dumbo ride next door to this one, to help shorten lines to this ever popular ride.

Fantasyland is the heart of the Magic Kingdom so the expansion is adding multiple rides, restaurants and gift shops in a major project that will dwarf the last major expansion at Magic Kingdom, when Splash Mountain was constructed.   Some new attractions may open later this year, but most will be completed by the end of 2013 or early 2014.   The headliners are largely taken from Disney classic films:  Seven Dwarfs Mine Train - a family coaster, a bit slower than Big Thunder Mountain, that barrels through a diamond mine; The Castle of the Beast - from "Beauty and the Beast"; and Under the Sea - a journey of "The Little Mermaid."

This addition will also include a beautifully designed hilly, shady forest and countryside that lie beyond a new castle wall that will go up behind the current Cinderella's castle.   This will give families the much needed shade to escape the Florida heat while basking in the joy seen through their children's eyes.

There is always something for everyone at Walt Disney World, no matter what the age, and the Magic Kingdom continues to draw young and old alike to fullfill wishes and dreams every single day of the year!

Have a magical day!!
