 Don’t Worry  . . . . Give Thanks!

In the middle of the night or the middle of the morning, even when you don’t think you are thinking about it, there it is . . . . .that thing you’ve been worrying about.  Worry is a destructive force that never helps solve problems, but adds stress and often even hinders finding a solution.  Whether we are worrying about recent terrorist attacks, family problems or illnesses, or other personal situations, it is much better to make a list of those people or things we are thankful for.  By practicing this daily, not just on Thanksgiving, we will develop an “attitude of gratitude” and look for the good in each day.

Here is a cute story of how worry robs us of solutions and peace:

“Years ago, in the early days of aviation, a pilot was making a flight around the world.  After he was airborne for over two hours, he heard a noise in his plane which he recognized as a gnawing of a rat.  This was a very serious situation, because the rat could be gnawing through a vital cable of the plane.  He became extremely nervous and anxious, not knowing what to do.  He was two hours away from any landing strip.  Then he remembered the rat is only a rodent.  It is not meant to live up in the air, but on the ground.  So he kept climbing the plane until he reached several thousand feet.  Suddenly the gnawing ceased.  The rat was dead because he could not survive at that altitude.  When the pilot safely landed the plane two hours later, he found the dead rat.”

Worry is the rodent in our lives.  Instead of looking for peaceful solutions, we allow it to rob us of the joy that each day brings.  This Thanksgiving, let us not worry about what “might be” but continually give thanks for what IS.  We have so much to be thankful for, the list is never-ending.  Make that list this week and have the best Thanksgiving ever!

Allen and I wish everyone a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
