Barbara's Blog:

Since the opening of Walt Disney World in October, 1971, when there was only the Magic Kingdom, to today with four theme parks covering many miles of magic, almost every year has brought some new attraction, activity or point of interest.  This year is no exception, with many new things to see and do amid anticipation of great things to come.

EPCOT:  A ride based on the movie Frozen is expected to open this spring in EPCOT's Norway pavilion.  Frozen Ever After features a wintry boat ride through Arendelle with songs and animated characters from the movie guiding the way.  Yes, you will hear the song, "Let It Go!"

A favorite attraction, Soarin', will have changes this summer that will take visitors around the world to survey unique natural landscapes and man-made wonders from the sky, instead of "hang-gliding" over California scenery.  And as a bonus, an additional theater will shorten wait times!

ANIMAL KINGDOM:  Disney's newest theme park is currently open only during the day, but it will add evening hours starting this spring, granting visitors the first nocturnal views of giraffes, zebras and other African wildlife.  This includes a nighttime safari through the park's African savanna as well as a new nighttime show called "Rivers of Light" that will combine live performers, floating lanterns and other special effects on the park's Discovery River.   Construction continues on the new Avatar Land scheduled to open in 2017.  Most details remain secret, but the attraction will feature a replica of the alien world in the movie.

HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS:  This will be the last year to view the park as most know it.  The name of the park will change along with a $3 billion makeover, but no dates have been disclosed.  Many established attractions will be removed to make way for a future Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land, which will include rides and entertainment based on both movies.  But for now, the popular Toy Story Mania, a 3-D ride and arcade game, is opening an additional racetrack this spring, to reduce wait times.

DISNEY SPRINGS:   Known as the former "Downtown Disney," there has been a major transformation in this shopping, dining and entertainment district which has been made into an open-air promenade, reminiscent of Florida's lakeside towns during the early 1900's.  When completed, there will be more than 150 shops, restaurants and other spaces to explore and truly something for all ages.  One parking garage is finished and operating, while a second one is still under construction.  Most construction in the area should be completed by the end of this year.

Change in life is inevitable and Disney World is no exception, offering new excitement, new adventures and new worlds to explore.  It should be yet another "magical" year!
