ARE WE THERE YET, AGAIN?

Barbara’s Blog:

For those who have ever traveled with children, this is a phrase certainly heard many times!  However, this time it pertains to the never-ending wait at Posner Village situated at I-4 and Hwy 27 (Exit 55), where we are continuously promised an expansion of retail shops or commercial venues that never seem to materialize.

Well over a year ago, we were once again given the “hope” that more retail stores would open at Posner Park in the vacant field located directly across from Dick’s Sporting Goods.  Some of the stores named to occupy this new “Village” were Party City, Tuesday Morning, ULTA, Home Goods, Marshalls, and several other retail shops, as well as a grocery store.  Are we there yet?   NO!  Not even a sign appears anywhere on the property indicating that any progress has been made.  Plans were drawn up and maps of the pending development were distributed to local residents as to where these shops would be located, with a main entrance from Ernie Caldwell Drive.   But not even a shovel of dirt has been moved.

We recently asked the regional manager of “Popeye’s,” which took over a year to open even after construction was completed, what happened that it took so long?  The answer was not a surprise:  Polk County gave them many hurdles to overcome.  With the economy strong, massive growth has occurred in the neighboring counties of Osceola, Orange and Lake, but once again, progress is stalled in Polk County.  So, of the Four Corners of “four counties” that converge, there is only one that delays and discourages progress.

For those of us who live in northeast Polk County, it would be wise to become educated on all upcoming elections for County Commissioners so that we can assure that the future of Polk County development, especially in unincorporated Davenport area, is not overlooked.  We deserve all of the amenities that the other neighboring counties have and enjoy.
