A Personal Treasure Map
January 9th, 2013 7:28 AM

No self respecting buccaneer would set out in search of buried treasure without a map.  So why should we?  A personal treasure map is a collage of your ideal life that you create as a visual tool to focus your creative energy in the direction you wish to go.

First is to visualize your ideal life.  What does your dream house look like?  What area is it in?  Do you have a garden?  A swimming pool?  You can also add what kind of car you love, any pets included, etc.  The idea is to find pictures in magazines or elsewhere to match the ideal photos in your mind.  Then cut them out and create a collage on posterboard or bulletin board. If pictures are hard to find, use some creativity and draw some pictures of what you want.  Finally, find a really happy picture of yourself and put it in the center of the treasure map collage.

When I was living in Pennsylvania all my life, my dream was to move to Central Florida.  To keep my dream alive for over 10 years, I had not only a collage of what I truly wished for, but I kept a "dream box" the size of a storage box.   Every time I went shopping and saw something that looked like it would be perfect for my Florida "dream home" I bought it and put it in my dream box.  Now, after living in my actual dream home for 10 years, I still have some of those original items that were put in my dream box to remind me of what I longed for all those years and how I made my dream come true.

Our wishes, our hopes, and our dreams are our truest treasures.  Guard them in the sanctuary of your heart.  Keep your personal treasure map and look at it often. The greatest secret to living a happy and fulfilled life is the realization that everything is created in our minds before it manifests itself in the outside world.  We must believe it before we can see it.

This year, go after your dream home, or begin the process of waiting for it.  You have to know what you are digging for, before "X" can mark the spot!
