A Lesson From Loss

Barbara's Blog:
It was just to be another fun Saturday evening for those attending the nightclub in Orlando.  Just another night out on the town, after a typical weekend day . . . . . no work, errands taken care of, friends contacted, plans made and the anticipation of celebrating the evening.  Instead, there came news bulletins, phone calls, disbelief, shock, pain, grief, hearts  broken and dreams dashed.

Of those lives lost, last thoughts were probably not about their jobs or promotions, financial issues or how hassled their day had been.  Instead, most likely those last thoughts were of family, faces they loved, and fear of life itself ending way too soon.

If we are alive, we cannot escape loss, as it is a part of real life.  When something tragic happens we wish to go back in time to just the moment before, trying to remake or change the outcome.  But of course, we can't.  And life goes on.

For those still alive today, we have a choice as to how we will live this precious gift.  Don't wish it away; don't waste it.  Be grateful for it.  Let thanksgiving rise above any kind of disappointment.  If today is so bad that this gift doesn't seem worth acknowledging . . . . finding one moment to enjoy, one person to love, or one friend to call; if life is so difficult it doesn't seem worth living, then don't live today for yourself . . . . .

Live it for all those who lost their lives early Sunday morning.  Let your heart shine for them, and live life to the fullest.
